I tested the cables and there is flickering. What should I do?
If you're experiencing flickering after testing your cables, there could be several potential causes. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help identify and resolve the issue:
Loose or Dirty Connection
Check the connections at both the camera and inside the headliner. A loose connection can cause flickering, especially if it's movement-related. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the camera to ensure a solid connection. Also, inspect the connection between the Toyota harness and the GG extension harness to ensure it's secure.
Water Ingress
Water can enter the connections, either at the camera module or where the factory camera harness meets the GG harness. If the installation is outside the vehicle (e.g., near the camper), water may have caused corrosion. For external installations, we provide heat shrink in our kits to prevent this issue. Check for any signs of water damage.
Pinched, Kinked, or Stretched Cable
Ensure the harness is not pinched, kinked, or stretched at any point along its routing. This could occur under the truck or if the excess harness is wound too tightly. Be sure the cable isn't bent at a harsh angle, as a tight bend can cause internal wire separation, leading to flickering. Aim for a bend radius of roughly 3-4 inches for proper cable handling.
Aftermarket Dash Camera Interference
In some cases, aftermarket dash cameras wired into the mirror power source have caused flickering. These cameras can introduce electrical noise into the system, affecting signal integrity. Try temporarily unplugging all aftermarket accessories to see if the flickering resolves.
If none of these issues resolve the problem, please reach out to austin@ggoffroad.com to discuss getting a new cable.
Does GG Offroad offer a pre-built toggle switch solution?
At this time, GG Offroad does not offer a pre-built toggle switch for switching between stock and relocated cameras. However, we are continually exploring solutions based on customer feedback and may offer one in the future.
Are there aftermarket cameras compatible with the 2025 Toyota Tacoma OEM harness?
Currently, there are no aftermarket cameras known to work seamlessly with the OEM harness for the 2025 Toyota Tacoma. For this reason, reusing the stock camera is the recommended solution.
Can I use the Digital Rearview Camera Relocation Kit without relocating my existing cameras?
Yes, it is possible to purchase additional OEM cameras from Toyota and use the kit to connect the new cameras to your desired location. This allows you to keep your existing cameras in their original positions while adding new ones for the relocated setup.
Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy plug-and-play way to switch between the two setups. The simplest method would involve routing both camera connections to the headliner and manually swapping the cables as needed.
Are the short camera cable male connectors supposed to be excessively tight when connecting to the extension cable?
Yes, the male connectors for the short camera cable are designed to be tight when connecting to the extension cable. While they may feel hard to insert or remove initially, this ensures a secure connection over the long term.
Tailgate Cable Questions
I do not have the 360 package on my Tundra/Tacoma. Can I use the tailgate camera?
Unfortunately not. These cables are difficult to produce and I need to ensure demand before getting them made by my cable house. Show your interest by filling out this form and you’ll be notified when they come out!
